Television and Video

Television

The Archive, made a designated archive for recording television broadcasts in 1991, has off-air recordings dating back to 1982. Since this period we have recorded thousands of analogue television programmes relating to Wales off-air - in the Welsh and English languages: We also record broadcasts relating to historical events, such as general elections, and other important breaking news stories of international significance.

The collection of off-air recordings is vast and varied and of use to a range of researchers and users:
There is plenty here to appeal to those with an interest in studying media, of course, but the documentary, news, history and entertainment programmes in the collections are of interest across the board - to those interested in Politics, History, Language, Sport...

The Archive is home to the S4C Station Log and the Archive therefore has a copy of all programmes broadcast on S4C since 1985.

Video and DVD

In addition to recording programmes and films that are broadcast on television, the Archive also holds a large collection of videos relating to Wales. The collection includes items that have been published and distributed widely alongside videos and DVDs produced and distributed on a much smaller and more localised scale.
