Title
Girl Guides - Eisteddfod at 'Gregynog'
Date
20/07/1970
Description
Filmed as an item for 'Heddiw', the Welsh language news programme, this is footage of a Guides Cymru Eisteddfod in the grounds of 'Plas Gregynog', near Newtown, held to celebrate the movement's 30th birthday. There are shots of the guides - and a guider in a wheel-chair - arriving; being judged on their camp cooking skills; presenting a puppet show; dancing dressed in Welsh costume, and eating ice-creams. The presenter interviews various guides - a ranger, a land ranger, a guide, a Queen's guide - and a guider [Mrs Hixon?]. He asks them what guiding is all about e.g. its philosophy, how it differs from 'Urdd Gobaith Cymru' [the Welsh language youth movement], whether there is too much emphasis on gaining badges, whether guiding in Wales can be considered a Welsh movement. The item ends with shots of the arrival of Princess Margaret in her capacity as Honorary President of the Girl Guide Association.
